We’re proud to announce that Billy Lander, our Division Supervisor in Flight Power and Electro-Mechanics, will be running the 2020 London Marathon on behalf of the Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation. This year all of the money raised will be going towards Children with Cancer UK. You can donate to the foundation here.
On 26 April, Billy will be among 24 runners, running on behalf of the Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation. In February 2018, the family received the devastating news that the cancer had returned in her brain and lungs and she only had weeks left. Over those weeks there were many hard conversations, including that Sammy Jo wanted her funeral to be an opportunity to raise money for charity.
Sammy Jo lost her battle with cancer at only 29 to Triple Negative Breast Cancer (8/8/1988 – 14/5/2018). She had decided that the money raised would be given to Children with Cancer UK because she couldn’t bear the thought that children would suffer the same way she did.
Within a few months of her funeral, the Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation was set up in her memory on her birthday. On 8 August 2019, through lots of hard work from family and friends, the foundation was able to hand over an amazing £88,000 to Children with Cancer UK only a year after beginning the foundation.
This year, Billy and the 23 other runners are hoping to raise a grand total of £55,000 for the Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation. All proceeds of which will go to Children with Cancer UK and their ongoing research and care work.
