Friday 2nd August saw two teams fight it out in a game of football to see who would rise as champions… unfortunately, it wasn’t us. But we still had great fun! Our (self-appointed) team captain, Lewis Cronk, said:

“The match was organised by myself with another company called NORD Recruit. A friendly match that we were all really looking forward too. The match itself didn’t go to plan and we were well beat in every area off the pitch. Our man of the match goes to our goalkeeper Daniel Parker saving a penalty from Ryan Poole in the first half and also went on to make several more crucial saves throughout the match. Our two other players that deserve a massive shout out are Ricky Dulieu and James Kerr who were our centre backs. Our best 3 players were those there to stop goals and as we still conceded 6 goals it really showed the quality of the opposition. Jack Plane however stepped up and scored a great volley. A massive thank you to NORD Recruit for playing us, despite the result we all had a great time and had a good laugh throughout the 90 minutes.”

The oldest person on the pitch was Tony, the Oakenhurst old timer. Although instead of playing, he was our referee, calling the shots as he saw them. Tony has given us a rundown of how the game played out:

“It was quite a tight game early on, Oakenhurst gave away a penalty which was well saved by Dan Parker, Nord then scored twice in first half compared to Oakenhurst’s nil. It was evident quite early on that they were a side that had played together before. The second half started with Nord scoring early on, Oakenhurst had scoring opportunities. Dan Parker continued to make a lot of important saves throughout the second half. Oakenhurst then made several subs. Martin Sanderson & Jack Plane making notable differences. Late into the second half Jack scored Oakenhurst’s one goal – a cross from the right wing put in at the far post. Nord reacted though and scored more goals, finishing the game at 6 – 1. All of the Oakenhurst side tried really hard against a good team and enjoyed it even though we didn’t win.”

It’s always enjoyable to have a bit of light competition between two companies and we all thoroughly enjoyed the game. Maybe next time, we’ll have a bit more practice and be a bit more organised when playing a well-practiced team like Nord Recruit!
